A match made on the west coast
This project is a fictional pop-up presentation based in Vancouver that covers the Prohibition Era using a combination of illustrations and
images, which is uncommon in the historical space. This project served as my capstone and went through numerous iterations and revisions
that challenged my creative problem-solving skills.

An Era of callous, genius, and cunning
There was a lot of rum smuggled over the U.S.-Canada border during the 1920s. At least a dozen warehouses in Victoria alone held an estimated 100,000 cases of liquor each. Motherships like Stuart Stone’s Malahat could take an estimated 50,000 out to sea, but larger freighters like the Ryou 2 could hold up to 84,000, with another 16,000 stacked on the deck. Smaller, faster vessels that ran rum to shore could carry anywhere from a few hundred to a thousand cases.

Building for a younger audience.
With such a lucrative trade and near-limitless American demand, many stories of daring and cunning emerged. I felt that the best way to embody this was through a set of titular characters, each of whom smuggled in their own unique way. My target market was Gen Z, so I knew that I would need digital integration and that I would need to make the exhibit visually exciting and appealing enough to be shareable.
